Tanya L. Freeman – Super Lawyers 2017

Tanya L. Freeman has earned the respect of her peers in the legal community and the trust of clients with cases involving divorce, family law, child custody, child support, alimony and domestic violence. Although practicing law for less than five years, Freeman has achieved numerous accolades, including being named to Rising Stars for the second year, receiving Avvo’s highest rating of Superb and recently being honored with its Clients’ Choice Award. Tanya was named Family Lawyer of the Year by the Hudson County Bar Association in 2017. Freeman is a partner with Weiner Law Group LLP, and maintains offices in Parsippany and Jersey City.

Freeman has represented clients in cases involving professional athletes, television personalities and other high-profile individuals. Freeman has lectured on custody and child support issues to fellow attorneys on behalf of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Institute for Continuing Legal Education. She also currently serves as a Trustee for the Hudson County Bar Association.  In 2014, Freeman was appointed by the governor to a five year term on the Board of Directors for University Hospital in Newark, where she serves as the Chair of the Governance, Ethics and Legal committee. Her community involvement also includes service as Chairperson for the Circle of Red Campaign for the Northern New Jersey American Heart Association. Freeman earned her undergraduate degree cum laude from Caldwell University and her juris doctorate cum laude, from Touro College, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center.


Prior to practicing law, Freeman spent 15 years as a corporate auditor at leading banks and insurance firms. With experience in complex transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and large commercial-loan transactions, she applies her auditing skills to assess the financial aspects of her divorce cases. Freeman’s clients and peers refer to her as an extraordinary negotiator and skilled in crafting creative settlement solutions.


Having managed large teams as a corporate auditor, Freeman has the unique talent for pulling together the necessary resources to get the job done. Her support staff includes two associate attorneys and a paralegal, but she will also often assemble a team of experts, including forensic accountants, psychologists, private investigators, real estate appraisers and business valuators to help resolve complex financial issues for her clients.


Freeman brings a great deal of personal insight to guiding families in developing custody and parenting time plans. With six children of her own, Freeman certainly understands the long-term dynamics of raising children. In handling custody and child support issues, she considers short- and long-term solutions for families and helps her clients plan accordingly.
